Gretzky NHL 2006 incorporates an all-new Wayne vs. Wayne mode where gamers earn "99 Time" and can temporarily activate Gretzky to go six-on-five against opponents or alternately defend against him when an opponent activates 99 Time. To challenge the skill levels of all hockey videogame fans, Gretzky NHL 2006 offers the Gretzky Challenge with unlockable, playable versions of Gretzky from his days as an Edmonton Oiler, Los Angeles King or New York Ranger. Additionally, hockey fans can play a quick game in either Quick Start or Exhibition Mode, act as owners in Season Mode, or compete against friends or other hockey fans in head-to-head play via Ad Hoc connectivity and Infrastructure Mode. With new gameplay modes, features and audio commentary, Gretzky NHL 2006 blends the look, feel, and passion of hockey with hard-hitting and intense arcade-style gameplay.

Similar in concept to the 16-bit Sonic Spinball games and the GBA's Mario Pinball Land, Metroid Prime Pinball combines the character-based adventure and exploration of a platform game with pinball mechanics and party-table styled levels. In the single player mode, Samus Aran rolls up in a ball and must navigate a series of six large, pinball table environments, full of bonuses, power-ups and hidden areas that prompt shooting and platform-jumping mini-games. At the end of each table is a boss character, each with a distinct style of attack (and an equally distinct hidden weakness). Metroid Prime Pinball also supports a multiplayer mode, for as many as eight players, though a wireless DS connection.

Gamers return to the slopes in this third full edition of EA's exaggerated-action snowboarding series, SSX. As the game goes "On Tour," players create their own custom characters, which they'll develop from amateur bunny-hillers to seasoned "Black Diamond" pros. For the first time, the game allows skiers on the mountains as well, and players can decide if they'd rather ski or board when they create their characters. Featuring more than 40 songs, the diverse rock soundtrack includes selections by Def Leppard, The Hives, Iron Maiden, Bloc Party, Jurassic 5, and several others.

Golf superstar Tiger Woods invites gamers back to the links in this "06" edition of EA's exclusive pro golfing game. Once again, players can use EA Sports' "Game Face" tools to create their own custom golfer, and then prove their skills on the virtual links against stars of the sport both past and present, including Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Ben Hogan, and of course, Tiger himself. A total of 21 real-life golfers are represented, on 11 PGA Tour courses, with 3 additional fantasy courses. New to this year's edition is a "Rival" mode, which allows gamers to challenge stars of the sport in the prime of their games. The control scheme has been enhanced as well, now allowing gamers to use both analog sticks to affect the trajectory of the ball, as well as the power and accuracy of their shots.

Sega's Visual Concepts rejoins developer Kush Games to bring the "2K5" edition of ESPN NHL to the virtual ice. This 2004 release is designed to retain the solid, core play of previous years' hockey games, while adding new features and a refined presentation. New moves are included to allow gamers to more fully take control of their players and the puck, and the fighting system has been redesigned. The Franchise mode has also been thoroughly revamped, and a new "Party" mode has been added. Even the "Skybox" feature has been enhanced, with a number of new unlockables. As in earlier versions of the title, ESPN NHL 2K5 features all of the National Hockey League's teams and players, based on the most recent full season (2003-2004).In many situations, the right analog stick can now be used to directly control a player's hockey stick. On defense, gamers can make their players sweep at the puck, or poke-check a passing opponent, even while skating backwards. The fighting system in ESPN NHL 2K5 is tied to a tension meter that rises and falls according to the mood on the ice; when teams are hitting harder (or playing dirtier), tensions rise, and players are more likely to drop the gloves at the slightest provocation. Players involved in a fight can move freely around the ice, and retreat or charge into the brawl at will. A wider selection of punches and grabs is available, but good tactics are required, as each attack drains some the player's stamina.The series' Franchise mode was rebuilt for this 2K5 version, designed to produce smarter GM opponents who make more realistic trades and staffing decisions. The gamer's own staff now consists of coaches, scouts, and players, all the way down to the minor leagues, and gamers can check out up-and-coming prospects first-hand, instead of just guessing at their styles of play based on statistics.
